WifiSleuth 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi RF Spectrum Analyzer & 802.11 Network Discovery Tool...

The Sleuth series of PC-based spectrum analyzers are professional and low-cost diagnostic tools used for troubleshooting interference problems associated with Wi-Fi networks and other wireless devices operating in the 2.4 GHz spectrum.  The RF data is collected and presented in a variety of graphical and intuitive charts.  The software is easy to use and understand and the product, in general, provides a fast-start solution which allows you to quickly resolve RF issues that affect WLAN connectivity and impact the performance of your Wi-Fi network.

In addition to spectrum analysis, integrated in the application software is a full-featured, Wi-Fi scanner -- also known as an 802.11 network discovery tool. Each spectrum analyzer can be used to monitor wireless devices and RF interference that impact the performance, range and security of wireless networks. By combining 2.4 GHz spectrum analysis and 802.11 network discovery into one tool then you have the best of both worlds. No other instrument provides this broad range of data acquisition, analysis, reporting and display capability in a single tool.

There are three models of Sleuth spectrum analyzers:
    AirSleuth-Pro       retails for $395.00 USD
    WifiSleuth            retails for $249.95 USD
    AirSleuth-Lite       retails for $149.95 USD
Information on how the models differ can be found here...

Sleuth Analyzers include: USB or PCMCIA wireless device, application software and instructions
Supported Operating Systems: 32-bit Windows XP, Vista (Ultimate) and Windows 7

WifiSleuth is a unique, PC-based product that makes setting up and troubleshooting wireless networks easy. It is a Wi-Fi channel analyzer that takes the guesswork out of identifying the best channel for your 802.11 wireless network (WLAN). The frequencies used by Wi-Fi (802.11 standard) are unlicensed and shared by a variety of wireless devices. In most environments certain Wi-Fi channels make better choices for a WLAN since they are subject to less interference from other devices in the area that compete for the same region of the 2.4 GHz spectrum. WifiSleuth quickly and easily determines the best Wi-Fi channel for your 802.11 access point (AP), which facilitates optimal performance of your wireless network (WLAN).

Under the hood WifiSleuth uses the same 2.4 GHz spectrum analyzer technology as AirSleuth, but distinguishes itself by presenting the data in diagnostic views that are “Wi-Fi channel-centric”. Though 2.4 GHz spectrum analyzers are great at monitoring radio frequency (RF) signals and interference – due to the way Wi-Fi channels overlap it is still difficult to identify from a frequency spectrum the “best” channel to use for a wireless network. WifiSleuth collects RF data in real-time, evaluates it, and then shows you the best (and worst) channels.

WifiSleuth offers 2 real-time diagnostic views of the RF data that it captures and evaluates (see our Screenshots page) -- Channel Spectrogram and Channels Timecourse. WifiSleuth also includes a real-time calculation of “Best Wi-Fi Channel” – i.e. the channel with the least interference. A proprietary algorithm was developed that ranks the 13 Wi-Fi channels in real-time from least to most noisy. So, you can set up WifiSleuth at a particular location, let it run for an extended period and when you are done the Best Wi-Fi Channel will tell you, overall, which is the best Wi-Fi channel to use for the access point that services that site.

As with the other Sleuth analyzers, WifiSleuth  includes two software modules integrated into one application -- one for 2.4 GHz spectrum analysis and a second for performing 802.11 network discovery.
